In 2003, Mansell became part of the Balfour Beatty Group, where we operate as a stand alone business within their Building Management and Services sector, retaining our own name and the famous Centurion brand. Balfour Beatty is respected as a world class construction and engineering company, with particular expertise in managing large, complex, multi-disciplinary building projects.
Complementing this perfectly, our role, as one of the most successful construction and property services providers in the UK, is to bring specialist knowledge and expertise in refurbishment, new build and fit-out, to a range of market sectors - Social Housing; Interior Solutions; Airports; Defence; Telecommunications; Education; Heritage and Health.
We refer to these market sectors as \'products\' - and unusually for the construction industry, consider each of them as \'product development\' opportunities - the whole business being structured, at both a local and national level, around developing and improving our services to these sectors as the basis for future sustainable business growth.
Our policy of sharing knowledge and experience as widely as possible - internally, with customers and with our supply chain partners - has led to our securing many long-term relationships with customers in both the public and private sectors through framework and partnering agreements. The increasing number of these agreements means that best value principles are driving us forward and remain fundamental to our business philosophy.

It is an approach that has resulted in both our customers and suppliers choosing to develop sustainable, long-term relationships with us - and is one of which we are extremely proud and will work hard to maintain.
Around 20% of the company\'s turnover, some £100 million is generated by our Scottish Division, Headquartered in Aberdeen.
The Division comprises four discrete business units, each focused on specific work streams and dedicated to delivering projects in clearly defined market areas. In summary these are:

CORPORATE HISTORY AND OVERVIEWOUR HISTORY
Robert Mansell formed the company just short of a hundred years ago, in 1908, although it wasn\'t formally registered as Mansell Ltd until much later in 1932. Robert, a bricklayer by trade, operated around the south London area out of premises in Addiscombe, from the site on which our Croydon office is located today.
The company expanded rapidly across the rest of London, partly through organic growth and partly through the acquisition of three well known City contractors at the time - Harrison & Spooner, Holbrooks and AJ White. By the early 1980\'s turnover was up to £31m and over 1000 staff were employed. Ten years later, further acquisitions resulted in some satellite operations being consolidated and new offices opened in Andover, Birmingham and Frodsham in the North West - by 1997 R Mansell had become a public limited company trading as Mansell plc.
An organisation with a similar culture and history to ourselves, the Hall & Tawse Group, was acquired later that same year and it was an inspired move. Geographically their strength was predominantly in the Midlands, East Anglia, the north of England and Scotland and this immediately gave us national coverage. Gradually their construction and property service businesses were re-branded as Mansell, with the Hall & Tawse brand being retained for their specialist and bespoke joinery business, based in Aberdeen - where they are proud holders of the Royal Warrant of Appointment as Contractors to Her Majesty the Queen in Scotland.
At the end of 2003, we were acquired by Balfour Beatty, one of the most respected names in the international engineering and construction market.
We operate as a stand alone business within the Balfour Beatty Group, retaining our own culture, structure and well known brand - the Centurion - a concept that Robert Mansell himself originated by combining the first few letters of his Christian and surname to form the word \'ROMAN
